"What kind of Mormon are you?" What does that even mean? "Well are you a Mormon who follows all the rules, or a Mormon who likes to have fun every once in a while?" Again, are we being serious right now? Well to answer your question, "I am a Mormon who follows all the rules and it's fun!" I used to cringe when people would refer to me as a goody goody. They would sometimes call me a Molly Mormon or someone who was too into the church. I was often told that as I got older I would see a different side of the world. More of the world would be exposed to me. I'd become a mother and wife and have responsibilities and stresses that made it so I wouldn't be as strong in the gospel as I once was as I was in my youth. Just like when people tell newlyweds, "you just wait. Once you've been married for years and years that love will, in a way, fade." Wow. What a way to inspire and help the youth look forward to the future with hope and faith and joy! Not.
I'm not going to sit here and say life is easy. Or that as you do get older there aren't more responsibilities and stresses. But I am here to share with you that love does last, and your desire to be and do good should NEVER fade. As you see more of the world, as you have more responsibilities and more working AGAINST you let that be a witness to yourself that what you know IS true. It can be hard to stand for truth in a world that makes it seem anything BUT true. Let them call you what they want. You're not here to please them. You're not here to get their approval. You're here to be continuously engaged in good works. If someone were to observe you for an hour, without you knowing, would they be able to tell you're a Disciple of Christ? Would they want to be around you more simply because of the joy and happiness you emulate?? We can't just sit and count on what we already know. We need to be continuously strengthening our testimonies. If we stand still in our journey to come to Christ..we are bound to fail. We need to put forth our efforts to draw closer to Him continuously. He is not the only one hastening His work. Satan is hastening his work as well, and if we're not drawing closer to Christ, we're giving power to Satan to blur our view of what matters most.
Don't doubt your faith. The world will give you all the reasons to do so. Don't. Don't mistake innocent questions for doubt, either though. It's good to have questions. Its okay. Don't think you're any "less of a Mormon" because you have questions. Don't be so hard on yourself when you make a mistake. You are NEVER to far from His arms. No matter what, remember He is always there. He loves you and wants you to believe and have hope. He will guide and protect you. I have a testimony of this. I know He loves us. I know He is there. He loves YOU, and He believes in YOU! Be THAT Mormon. Be that Mormon everyone makes fun of but secretly wants to be friends with. His love will guide you.
